Listening to The Cure

NOTE: This is a little experiment to see if quoting song lyrics in a poem can actually work. Hope you enjoy!

Listening to The Cure

Outside the graph coordinates

the music builds a room

of silent movie trees,

where the girls in distressed leather

are hard to please,

and the boys round their spines

into question marks

casting down pharaoh eyelids.

I was told that

quoting song lyrics in poems

never really works, but

Sometimes I dream –

the same image haunts me in sequence,

then the heat disappears.

The sound is deep in the dark.

We move like cagey tigers –

I almost believe that they’re real.
